COLLECT FOR PENTECOST VIII

Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom, you know our necessities before we ask and our ignorance in asking: Have compassion on our weakness, and mercifully give us those things which for our unworthiness we dare note, and for our blindness we cannot ask; through the worthiness of your son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.

COLLECT FOR DEDICATION

Almighty God, to whose glory we celebrate the dedication of this house of prayer; we give you thanks for the fellowship of those who have worshipped in this place, and we pray that all who seek y0u here may find you, and be filled with your joy and peace; through Jesus Christ your son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one god, now and forever. Amen

The Proclamation of the Word

FIRST LESSON

A reading from the Word of God written in Chronicles 7:11-16

 Reader – 7:00 a.m. - Camille King

             10:30 a.m. – Antonique Farah

Thus Solomon finished the house of the Lord and the King’s house: all that Solomon had planned to do in the house of the Lord in his own house he successfully accomplished.  Then the Lord appeared to Solomon in the night and said th him: “I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for myself as a house of sacrifice.  When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or sane pestilence among my people, if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.  Now my eyes will be open my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place.  For now I have chosen and consecrated this house so that my name may be there forever, my eyes and my heard will be there for all time.”

The Word of the Lord.                           All:  Thanks be to God.

PSALM 84

  1. O how amiable are thy dwellings: thou Lord of hosts!
  2. My soul hath a desire and longing to enter into the courts of the Lord: my heart and my flesh rejoice in the living God.
  3. Yea, the sparrow hath found her an house, and the swallow a nest where she may lay her young: even thy altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God.
  4. Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be always praising thee.
  5. Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee: in whose heart are thy ways.
  6. Who going through the vale of misery use it for a well: and the pools are filled with water.
  7. They will go from strength to strength; and unto the God of gods appeareth every one of them in Sion.
  8. O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer: hearken, O God of Jacob.
  9. Behold, O God our defender: and look upon the face of thine Anointed.
  10. For one day in thy courts: is better than a thousand.
  11. I had rather be a door-keeper in the house of my God: than to dwell in the tents of ungodliness.
  12. For the Lord God is a light and defence: the Lord will give grace and worship; and no good thing shall he withhold from them that live a godly life.
  13. O Lord God of hosts: blessed is the man that putteth his trust in thee.

THE EPISTLE

A reading from the Word of God written in 1 Corinthians 3:9-17

Reader – 7:00 a.m. – Clement King

            10:30 a.m. – Shaquille Williams

For we are God’s servants, working together; you are god’s field, God’s building.  According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building on it.  Each builder must choose with care how to build on it.  For no one can lay any foundation other than the one that has been laid; that foundation is Jesus Christ.  Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay straw – the work of each builder will become visible, for the Day will disclose it , because it will be revealed with the fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each has done.  If what has been built on the foundation survives, the  builder will receive a reward.  If the work is burned, the builder will suffer loss; the builder will be saved, but only as through fire.  Do you not know that you are god’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?  If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person.  For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.

The Word of the Lord                                All:  Thanks be to God.

Gradual Hymn – “We love the place, O God” – A&M 242

The HOLY GOSPEL of our Lord according to Matthew 21:12-16

Then Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who were selling and buying in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold doves. He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer.’ But you are making it a den of robbers,’” The blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he cured them. But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the amazing things that he did, and heard the children crying out in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David.,” they became angry and said to him, “Do you hear what these are saying?”  Jesus said to them, “Yes; have your never read, ‘Out of the mouths of infants and nursing babies you have prepared praise for yourself?’”

This is the Gospel of Christ                               All:  Thanks be to God.
